The production values throughout are outstanding, but this is not a “fancy” film. Rather, it sticks to the story it is telling without resorting to flashy tricks to grab the audience’s attention. Perhaps it was time to escape, in a lightening and thundering night, he escaped from the prison through the holehe had dug for twenty years .
He was free eventually .I like Andy ,for his talent and his wisedom . And the most important thing that I like is his spirit―never giving up.I have never seen such an amazing film since I saw The Shawshank Redemption. Shawshank encompasses friendships, hardships, hopes, and dreams.
And what is so great about the movie is that it moves you, it gives you hope. Even though the circumstances between the characters and the viewers are quite different, you dont feel that far removed from what the characters are going through.
It is a simple film, yet it has an everlasting message. Frank Darabont didnt need to put any kind of outlandish special effects to get us to love this film, the narration and the acting does that for him. Why this movie didnt win all seven Oscars is beyond me, but dont let that sway you to not see this film, let its ranking on the IMDbs top 250 list sway you, let your friends recommendation about the movie sway you.
Set aside a little over two hours tonight and rent this movie. You will finally understand what everyone is talking about and you will understand why this is my all time favorite movie.

I think this movie is very meaningful. I like it very much. You must think so too. You must all have a lot to say. But according to what we have appointed, I’m the Chair, so please let me show you my opinion first.
The story begins with the trial of a young banker, Andy Dufrense, victimized by circumstantial evidence, resulting in a conviction for the murder of his wife and her lover. After a quick conviction, Andy finds himself serving a life sentence at Shawshank prison, with no hope of parole. He exists in this prison only in appearance, keeping his mind free from the drab walls around him. His ability to do this results in the gaining of respect from his fellow inmates, but most of all from Ellis Redding. Ellis, commonly referred to as Red, finds gainful use of his entrepreneurial spirit within the drab walls of Shawshank by dealing in contraband and commodities rare to the confines of prison. Andy\'s demeanor and undeniable sense of hope causes Red to take a deeper look at himself, and the world around him. Andy proves to Red and the other inmates that in the conventional walls of Shawshank prison convention will find no home in his lifestyle.
As far as I’m concerned, this movie shows us three things: freedom, friendship, and hope. If we take a movie as a novel, then is a great novel without doubt. It reflects the real social life, and creates several typical characters with Classic Quotes and a few kinds of modifications. This movie organizes the main scenario of the story in a simple way and at the same time using some petty lines. It expresses the subject in a very artistic way.

In this movie, the friendship between Andy and Red moved me. It gave me an idea: getting a real friendship is more important than money and power. Friendship is really important, and in my opinion, it is very hard to get a real friendship. When we don’t have a real friend, we will feel very lonely. I may have this feeling during these days. That is really incredibly hard.
Also there are some sentences in the movie that really impressed me. The sentence I like most is “hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” Because I think, it encourages people appreciate the beauty of life, to keep their hope in heart forever. “It was as if some beautiful birds had flapped into our drab little cage and made these walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free.” From this sentence, I start to know that, in fact, something cannot be noticed at all. A man called Andy Dufresne, was sent into the prison, Shawshank, for he murderer his wife and her lover in bed. However, he was innocent as he said. The new days in the prison were hard to live. It’s violent, heartless and cruel. A month later, Andy began to make friends with other prisoners. One of them called Red, who could get anything what he wanted. Andy bought a mallet from him and started his plan to escape. During this time, he did many things: expanding the library, caving stones, making tainted money for the prison governor, etc. It took him 20 years to tunnel secretly and he successfully escaped from the prison. Before that, Andy had told his best friend Red that his dream---Zihuatanejo, a warm place without memory. After escaping, Andy lived a free life in another identity and made the prison governor arrested. Several years later, Red was approved to leave. He had lived inside for 40 years. He was institutionized. Sometimes he thought of getting back again as he didn’t belong the world, but he didn’t, for the promise to Andy. Finally, in Zihuyatanejo, they met.
It is a good film. The cruel prison life terrified me and the friendship moved me. The story goes to a happy ending---redemption.
