随着中国加入WTO的脚步，越来越多的中国产品以及中国文化走向了世界，同时，也有越来越多的外国产品和文化进入了中国。语言在这样的相互交往中起到了不可忽略的作用。我们不难发现，社会上涌出了大量的英语专业的就业人员，而且在相当长一段时间内，英语专业作为一个很热门的专业，被无数的中国学生追捧。而现在，由于过多的人员涉入了英语这一行业，导致大批的英语毕业生难以就业。我对于英语专业学生的就业方向以及社会对英语专业学生需求进行了相应的调查，初步了解了一些行情，也希望对此有正确的掌握，以便更好地应对将来的工作就业。特别是人世让我们更大程度上明白人才资源在一个企业当中的至关重要性。这也就对就业市场的进一步发展提出了国际化的高要求。
首先，先陈述一下我所了解到的英语专业学生的就业方向。主要有国际贸易方向，旅游方向和师资方向。其中，国际贸易方向提供国际贸易业务人员、商务翻译、商务助理等方面的职业。旅游方向主要涉及英文导游及涉外宾馆的接待及管理人员、外企业高级文员、外向型企业一般管理员这样的工作岗位。对于师资方向来说，幼儿园、小学、中学、职业高中的教师都是可选的。针对这样的主题 ，我设计了一套问卷调查，通过在一定的范围内做了调查之后，我得出了一些结论。
作为英语专业的学生，相当大的一部分比例的人都觉得英语在社会上的地位不是那么重要了，因为太多人会英语了。英语因此成了一个弱势的专业。而认为英语很重要的人则占一小部分，他们认为学好了英语很重要。大部分的人认为现在人才市场上英语需求的是听说读写的综合能力，仅次于综合能力的是口语好，少数人认为读写，收发邮件,其中有25%的人认为翻译，包括笔头和口头是很需要的。80%的学生认为英语人才需要的行业是外贸行业，次之的是酒店和旅游。如果说使用英语，更多的时候是在做翻译，70%的人是同意的，完全同意的则占10%，当然不同意的也有少数。在同学们找翻译公司的时候，很多人重视质量，质量好的才是第一，当然也有不少人重视速度还有方便，容易找到的跟快捷的也是一大优势。随着近些年社会的进步和发展，特别是沿海城市和大城市的日益趋于国际化，大型企业，外资企业，日益成为毕业生向往的就业目标。特别是在北京土海等国际化大都市，企业在工作中会有大量的场合要接触到英文文件、材料、资料以及直接和外方进行业务上的接触。甚至有些公司会在公司的日常文档中要求直接使用英文。所以现在的高水准的企业对英语水平特别是英语实际应用水平的要求实际上是相当高的。
一定程度上几来说，对英语水平的考察还将普偏的成为用人单位对学生水平衡量的重要指标。对于大多数的职位，英语已非专业技能，而是必备的职业素质，自然被企业普遍地采用为招聘考察项目。同时，就英语本身所含意义来看，英语是基本的职业素质与能力已被普遍认同。
大多数的同学认为目前人才市场上，英语人才供过于求。几乎没有人认为供不应求，紧缺的。一部分人认为符合要求的不多。50%的人对第一份工作的薪酬期望是1500元到2000元之间。其次是2000到2500元，几乎没有人期望是1000元以下。一部分人认为2000元往上或者更多。毕业后大部分人还是倾向于去三资企业工作，想去中小名营企业就业的不是很多。绝大多数人选择职业的原则是薪酬待遇，这是可以理解的。一些人选择兴趣爱好，其次是根据社会需求和大众趋势的。很多学生认为用人单位最关心毕业生的综合能力与发展能力，其次是专业成绩与社会阅历，当然也有不少同学认为是学校名气。现在专业不对口很普遍，所以很多学生认为给就业造成一定的困难，但还是可以克服的。一般大学生的就业知识主要来源于网上和学校的就业指导，其次是报纸杂志跟你培训机构。对于个人学习的专业，很多人觉得前景较有前途，很少一部分觉得很有前途，一部分人觉得没有前途或是根本没有想过。目前我国约有3亿多人在学英语(专业和非专业)，约占全国总人口的1/4。专家预测，再过几年，我国学英语的人数将超过英语母语国家的总人口数。规模如此庞大的人群在学英语，可实际应用水平到底如何呢?据国家外文局调查，目前我国从事同声传译和书面翻译的高端外语人才依然严重缺乏，能够胜任中译外工作的高质量人才缺口高达90%。对于千方百计的考证现象，大部分人认为是一种投资行为，少数人认为是一种无聊的消费。求职中困扰人最多的是能力不足，很少人认为是学校的就业指导不够。大部分人对于自己能胜任的职位没有考虑过，都认为船到桥头自然直。约80%的学生很重视大学的专业课学习，少数人只求一般或者能过就行。由此可见，学习的氛围还是很浓烈的。
一个人英语水平的高低，要看他的能力和实力，以及为社会所作的实际贡献的大小。所以我们英语专业的学生更加要努力提高自身的素质去适应社会的需要。学习外语的人很多，但是依旧翻译人才紧缺，因此我们更有理由去重视英语这门学科，提高自身的水平。在社会提供这么多机遇的条件下，我们更要努力完善自己的英语水平，为社会贡献一份力量。
